Decorate Your Home with Different Types of Windows
When building a house, in addition to doors for entry and exit, it is essential to have windows for ventilation. The installation of windows should be chosen in relation to light and wind direction to ensure they serve their purpose effectively. Having windows in a dark or obstructed direction by large buildings offers little benefit to the home. Similarly, having windows in the bedroom facing west, which receives sunlight all afternoon and may accumulate heat until night, is also not advisable. There are various types of windows to choose from, and TerraBKK would like to introduce you to the different types, which mainly include six categories:
Casement Windows are commonly seen; they open inward and can be single or double. The advantage is that they allow for full airflow, but the downside is that they take up more space than other types.

Sliding Windows open by sliding within the frame, often featuring two sashes in a single frame. They may slide open on both sides or just one. This type is suitable for smaller homes as it requires less space, but it also allows for less airflow since one sash is always closed, and rain can easily seep in through the frame.

Awning Windows open outward from the bottom frame. Their design resembles a sloped roof, allowing them to remain open during light rain. However, they cannot be fully opened due to their lifting mechanism, which makes them prone to damage.

Bi-fold Windows operate on a folding and sliding principle, allowing for wide openings without taking up much space. However, they are not very effective at keeping out rain and can easily fall off their tracks. Wooden bi-folds are often used as interior windows in traditional Thai homes, while exterior bi-folds are typically made from aluminum.

Fixed Windows cannot be opened and are used solely for viewing or letting in light. They are commonly used in limited spaces or areas where opening and closing is not necessary.

Louvered Windows consist of a frame with slats for glass or wood arranged in layers that can be rotated to open or close. The advantage is that they can be installed in narrow spaces, but the downside is that they allow for limited airflow and can easily break, both the mechanism and the glass used for opening and closing.

Typically, windows are installed after the house structure is completed, and then appropriately sized windows are sourced. You can plan in advance what type of window to choose. What should be avoided is purchasing windows before the structure is finished, as this complicates the work for the builders, making it harder to create openings that fit the windows than to find windows that fit the openings.
